Hello and welcome to the Capital Area Games for Life. This is an annual event that residents of long term care facilities in central Texas look forward to each year.

As the March Games rapidly approach many residents are taking advantage of the cold weather by practicing their throwing technique, joining walking groups, squeezing in extra time with their therapists, and creating masterpieces when they have some down time. Games for Life: The Documentary

Travis Hughbanks is an architect and filmmaker in Austin, Texas who produced the Games for Life video in 2009 after attending the games at the University of Texas. The video was created to highlight and showcase the diverse abilities and inspiring spirits that exist in so many residents of Austin-area nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Games for Life medalsThe 2009 games were the toughest yet! With all of our events so meticulously planned out and divided into age groups, the competition was like none other. Congratulations to all of the teams for doing such a wonderful job. We can’t thank you enough for practicing with your residents and training them all year long. They were exceptional athletes! Over 400 residents were in attendance at the Games For Life, and counting the spectators over 1,000 people were at the Games. We have space for more teams in 2010 so start practicing now, get your money raised, and invite everyone to come and watch!
